A FRIEND of a Basildon woman who was among the 96 people who died in the Hillsborough disaster believes that justice will now be served after six people were charged over the tragedy.

Marian McCabe, 21, was a keen Liverpool fan who worked at Yardley Cosmetics in Basildon on the production line.

It is believed she was pulled from the crowd by fellow fans before a police officer and a supporter tried to resuscitate her without success.

Russ Jarvis, who worked with Marian at Yardley Cosmetics, said: “Marian was a fanatical Liverpool supporter and went to every game.

“She lived and died supporting the team she loved.

“I remember the whole factory having a minute’s silence for her after Hillsborough and many people being deeply distressed as she was a very popular person.

“I felt that last year she had her name cleared but after yesterday (when the six were charged) I feel that she is going to get her justice at last.

“All those people who lied and covered up the truth will hopefully have to answer in court because the way they have treated the dead and the bereaved families is an absolute disgrace.”

Mr Jarvis has since moved to Sheffield and regularly visits the memorial at the ground.

Jon Morter, of South Woodham Ferrers, was part of the team which released a single that got to number one in the charts and raised money for the various charities associated with the disaster.

He said: “You can’t be pleased about it because it was such a horrific thing that happened on that day.

“I think there will be mixed emotions for many people.

“There will also be anger because it took so long to come about.”

The Hillsborough disaster took place in Sheffield on April 15, 1989, with Hillsborough hosting the FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
