MITCH Silvey dreams of being a pop star.

And on Saturday thanks to the Echo he got the chance to see for himself what its like to rock a festival.

The 15-year-old musician from Southend, who performs under the name Helpline Caller, won the Echo competition to perform at the Sutton With Shopland Festival held last weekend in Rochford.

More than 2,500 visited Sutton Farm over the weekend to hear the likes of the James Taylor Quarter and A wow the crowds at the annual festival.

On Saturday lunchtime Mitch, a pupil at Eastwood School, walked out on to the main stage to open the proceedings with a 25 minute set of his own songs.

A nerve wracking experience for even the most hardened performer perhaps but for the Mitch there were no nerves just an awesome feeling'.

"It was great, really excellent," he enthuses, " I really enjoyed it. When I saw the stage it was awesome, I felt like a rock star."

Mitch performed five self penned songs in total and describes his work as electronic pop'.

He uses synthesisers and a MP3 player to create his unique sound which impressed the judges and won him the chance to fulfil his dream.

He has been playing guitar since the age of nine and writing and recording his own songs such as When The Time is Right and How Long Will It Last?.

"Music is pretty much what I want to do," explains Mitch, "and getting up on stage and performing. It was a great feeling on Saturday and everyone really looked after me including Mike the stage technician- he made me feel like I was famous."

Mitch certainly managed to impress the crowds as well, as after his set he was approached by some of the audience clamouring to buy his CD."The audience really seemed to enjoy it." says Mitch, "It is the biggest thing I have ever played and I loved it."
