High-rise bosses have said they will NOT remove flammable cladding from two buildings until they receive further government guidance.

And Genesis Housing Association has said it has no plans to rehouse anyone in the of 96 flats within Aragon Court or Cleves Court, off Station Lane in Pitsea.

This information, and lack of elaboration from Genesis, has done very little to reassure residents at the blocks.

They are concerned about their safety after the tests were carried out in the wake of the terrible Grenfell Tower tragedy in June.

Lisa Anderson, 46, a resident from the first floor, said: “It’s very worrying.

“If there is a fire, it will be alright for me getting out from my floor, I can just jump out, but how do they get out from the top floor?

“They should remove this cladding as soon as possible.”

Another resident, 33, who asked not to be named, added: “Are Genesis Housing joking?

“How can they leave anything to chance after what happened with Grenfell?

“I want an explanation, they need to provide a decent one.”

Genesis bosses found that the flammable cladding in the top blocks of the tower failed the new tests put in place by the government - but said they were waiting for further Government guidance.

A spokesperson for Genesis would only say: “Genesis has taken all appropriate actions recommended by ministers and the fire brigade.

“This includes placing 24-hour Fire Monitors on-site to patrol and reassure residents, made sure that all relevant fire risk assessments are up to date and all fire precautions are in place and are functioning effectively.”

The issue is also of great concern to Basildon Council.

Even though the buildings are not its responsibility, the authority wants to ensure the safety of its residents. Councillor Gavin Callaghan, the chairman of the policy and resources committee, said: “This will be a worrying time for residents of Cleves Court and Aragon Court.

“The safety of our residents is our top priority.

“I have ensured the council has contacted Genesis Housing Association to outline the support it can offer and have made the fire service aware so they can be ready at all times, if needed.”

Essex fire service has also offered its help to Genesis to ensure that people are kept safe.

A spokesperson said: “The service has conducted a full audit of the building. And now we’ll continue to support and advise owners and residents to provide reassurance and fire safety advice.”
