THE latest three yarnbombed sensations have all been stolen.

The Craft Club Workshop had placed the carefully created “bombs” on postboxes in Leigh and Chalkwell. The designs included a colourful toucan, “ice cream island” and a “girl on a tropical island”.

The yarnbombers are very upset - and told how the thefts have deprived charities of much-needed cash.

One of the group’s members, Rebecca Burton, 35, who lives in Benfleet, said: “As upsetting as it is, we know that someone can’t help themselves and to them, stealing yarnbombs is fun.

“It’s such a shame.

“We now won’t be able to auction these ones off for charity.

“We hope the person/people who have taken them get joy from them, but maybe they could donate money to a well-deserved charity in return.”

The group took to Facebook to share its disappointment after , but were trying to stay upbeat.

The group posted: “We are most definitely not ones to wallow!

“Someone has taken a fancy to the big old knitted bird.

“Fair enough, the toucan was cute, we can see the need to take it and snuggle up with it at night!

“To the lovely person who has taken him at least have some fun with him.

“Send us ransom photos/him in his new home. Don’t just hide him away, he took 2 weeks to make (a long time when you have a fulltime job).

“See you Toucan. Let’s treat it as an act of kindness, someone needed him more than that post-box!”

They went on to appeal for anyone who may find the yarns.

They said: “If anyone is nearby could you ask the station lovelies to take in Topper and we will collect him from them please.” The club, based in Leigh, have made quite an impact. Their “bombs” consist of various crazy knitted creations which are then placed randomly around south Essex.

But the group was devastated to find on Friday morning that all three designs had been stolen.

The group runs workshops from the Leigh Fishermen’s Chapel and has set up its own GoFundMe page. Members want to fulfil their dream of opening a craft cafe and getting more people involved. To visit the group’s GoFundMe page and make a donation, go to gofundme.com/project-craft-club-hq
