Five men have been arrested after a man was stabbed in Southend in the early hours this morning.

One man in his twenties suffered stab wounds to his torso and was taken to hospital.

His injuries are described as non-life threatening.

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

The attack took place at 4am this morning on Lucy Road, near Talk nightclub.

A spokesperson from Essex Police said: "Police were called to reports of a fight in Lucy Road, Southend-on-sea at 4am on September 1.

"One man in his twenties suffered stab wounds to his torso and was taken to hospital. His injuries are described as non-life threatening.

"Five men have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

"A 25-year-old man from Shoeburyness; A 21-year-old man from London; a 22-year-old man from Barking; a 22-year-old man from London and a 20-year-old man from Southend all remain in custody.

"Investigations continue."

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed they attended the scene: "We were called just after 4am today to York Road, Southend, to a report of a man who was injured.

"An ambulance crew attended to a man with chest injuries who was taken to hospital in a serious condition."
