THE ambitious developer of the new Sandy Bay residential resort on Canvey has claimed that he plans to make it the “best resort of its kind in Europe”.

Lee Skinner, who is overseeing the development of the Sandy resort, has refuted claims that potential buyers will be out priced as they will be getting value for their money.

He stated that the cheapest property starts at £199,995.

Mr Skinner said: “We want this to be the best resort of its kind in Europe.

“There has been a wow factor for our residents who have come down and seen the properties.

“Everyone who has come down to see them has been really impressed - you have to see them in person to really appreciate how great they are.

He went on to say that the new developments will be a boost for Canvey and people looking to downsize.

He said: “We believe it will be exceptionally good for the island, it can only be a good thing.

“It’s aimed towards people 50 and over who are looking for a safe, comfortable place to live.

“A lot of people who are moving into them have come from the hectic environment of London and the middle of Essex and this is the other end of the spectrum when they move in.

“They realise that they are like permanent holiday homes and they couldn’t afford these types of properties anywhere else.”

He went on to say that it is the perfect scenario for people who are looking to sell their house, especially if they have children who are looking to move out.

He said: “By selling their homes and moving in here more cheaply, it releases equity of the parents’ home for the kids, so it’s rejuvenating.

“It’s a lovely residential area and more so with these new properties, so it will certainly be good for the island.”

The properties opened last Saturday after work was completed and Mr Skinner says there is plenty of interest.

He added: “It’s a choice of lifestyle and it’s very unique.

“It is like an upmarket Centre Parcs so effectively a holiday home with all the facilities and perks that people would want.

“As I say, they are very well priced for what they are and we’ve already had a very good response from the people we’re aiming them at.”

The site will also feature a clubhouse with a restaurant, cafe, bar and convenience store, an indoor swimming pool, spa and gym complex, a gated entrance with 24-hour security and maintenance teams.
