If you're an avid vulture of the local arts and culture scene, you would already be aware of (and have possibly seen, if you were one of the 20,000 people who went to Village Green), the touchingly beautiful Love Letters to Southend exhibition.

Arts organisation and charity Metal had launched the project to celebrate the 125 year of Southend (official birthday, September 19 1892 folks), whereby people of all ages from all walks of life across the borough, were invited to write or design a love letter to the town.

As a result, over 3,000 postcards were received by Metal and then exhibited at the Village Green festival which took place this year on Saturday July 8.

Pupils from local schools, including Hamstel Infants, St Helens Catholic School, Barons Court Primary, Greenways, Temple Sutton, Westborough, Chase High School, Belfairs Academy, Our Lady of Lourdes, Chalkwell Hall School, The Lancaster School, St Bernards, also took part creating a fantastic range of artwork and poems.

Well now - "due to popular demand" - there's another chance to take in a selection of this heart-melting array of love for Southend, at an exhibition running at the Beecroft Art Gallery (ground floor), opening today until November 30.

The exhibition includes the winner of the best Love Letter to Southend, voted for by the public (cast from over 1,000 votes) was designed by Noah from Thorpe Greenways Primary School.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to buy a canvas bag with Noah’s winning design on it.

Gallery opening times are from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am – 5pm.

The Beecroft Art Gallery is in Victoria Avenue, Southend.
