BILLERICAY Town manager Glenn Tamplin could not believe his side were denied a late penalty as his side drew 1-1 with Hungerford Town in the FA Cup third qualifying round.

Substitute Ricky Modeste found the back of the net to cancel out Stefan Brown’s first half penalty for the home side.

But Modeste was then booked for simulation late on when it appeared he had been brought down by Hungerford goalkeeper Marcus Beauchamp.

Tamplin said: “We’ve drawn 1-1 with a good side but we were blatantly cheated by the referee.

“We should have had a stonewall penalty but instead the referee gave a free kick the other way and booked Ricky Modeste.

“It really feels at the moment as though we are playing against up to 14 men with the officials.”

Brown gave Hungerford a 31st minute lead from the penalty spot after Paul Konchesky handled.

But Modeste bundled the ball home midway through the second half to equalise.

Billericay should have had a penalty in the dying moments when Modeste was caught by Beauchamp, but Town will be looking to progress into the next round by winning Tuesday night’s replay.
