Southend celebrated the colourful Diwali festival in style.
The annual Indian festival, which ran from October 17 to 21, is the festival of lights and the holiest month in the Hindu lunar calendar. The festival brings together communities to celebrate the event.
The deputy mayor, councillor Derek Jarvis, went to Sita restaurant in Southchurch Road last week.
He said: “I was delighted to attend the Diwali celebration in Southend and to celebrate this wonderful festival of light.
“Diwali honours the powerful and timeless message of peace, mutual respect and the victory of light over evil, promoting community cohesion and happiness for all.
“It is vitally important we celebrate diversity in Southend, which enriches our borough. I wished everyone celebrating, a very happy Diwali.”
