South Essex MPs have published details of cash they’ve received on top of their parliamentary salary.

Trips abroad, fees for speeches and rented out properties are among things highlighted in the Register of Members’ Interests.

James Duddridge, Conservative MP for Rochford and Southend East, has listed his previously announced his role as an adviser to Brand Communications which promotes African interests around the world.

Mr Duddridge, a former Africa Minister receives £3,333 a month for eight hours work.

In addition he was funded for more than £16,000 worth of trips abroad. These include trips to Mauritius for a conference on African prosperity and investment, a five-day visit to Hong Kong in January to help boost ties with China, a fact finding trip to Egypt and a visit to Liberia to look at its health system. He also received a £5,000 donation from a private donor.

He said: “The register allows for transparency and shows that I travelled to Hong Kong, Liberia and Egypt as an MP and worked for a company as an adviser for nine days in 2017. It also declare a donation to my 2017 General Election Campaign.”

Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West receives £6,000 a year for 100 hours’ work for the Caravan Club. Donations to the MP’s party organisation amounted to just over £13,000. Sir David was also funded £1,900 for a trip to Switzerland in April to foster Swiss-EU relations and £500 for a visit to Paris for the Free Iran Rally Pairs Conference in August.

Sir David said: “I have for many years now been the Parliamentary adviser to the Caravan and Motorhome Club. It is an honour and a privilege to be linked to one of the best run organisations in the country, whose sole aim is the responsible ownership of caravans and allowing people to enjoy our beautiful countryside.

Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point boosted charity coffers by taking part in a number of surveys, including Mori, with donation ranging from £30 to £200.

A spokesman for Ms Harris said: “Rebecca has occasionally done surveys for polling companies so she that can donate the fees to different Castle Point charities, and like all MPs she also declares any donations over £1,500 in value, which went directly to Castle Point Conservative Association towards association running costs.”

Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford earned £1,000 for a speech for the University of Buckingham and a £2,000 donation to the Conservative Party.

Mr Francois said: “My entry in the register is pretty modest as most of my time is taken up on constituency matters or now serving on the House of Commons Defence Committee, which I was elected to last month.”

John Baron, MP for Basildon and Billericay earns £600 for writing a financial column and declared he earns rental of more than £10,000 a year on a London house and flat. Mr Baron declined to comment.

In the parliametary register, Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock recorded more than £17,000 in donations for his party. On parliamentary business, he also took trips to Jerusalem and China worth £6,000, funded by external organisations . Mr Metcalfe also has a holiday home in Languedoc worth more than £100,000.
