A young woman has died in hospital three days after a serious crash on the Dartford Crossing.

Abi Harvey, 21, from Langdon Hills, was seriously injured in the smash in the early hours of Friday morning.

The former Seevic College student was driving her silver Audi A1 when it was in collision with a commercial lorry, on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.

The incident led to the road being closed for more than ten hours while police officers investigated the crash and assessed the scene.

Motorists used a diversion put in place through the tunnel while a forensic examination of the scene was carried out.

The crash also left a large diesel spillage covering the carriageway.

The East of England Ambulance Service Trust sent an ambulance, the Hazardous Area Response Team, known as Hart, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer and the South East Coast Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene.

They treated the young woman for a serious head injury before she was flown to Kings College Hospital, in London, for further treatment.

But sadly it has been confirmed she died in hospital yesterday morning.

The driver of the lorry, a 25-year-old man from Croydon, in London, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries by Kent Police.

Officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for more information about the crash.

They would like to hear from anyone who saw the lorry in the area at the time.

It is predominently white with red and blue writing on the side.

It was towing a drawbar trailer.

As investigations into the collision continue, anyone with information is asked to call Kent Police’ Serious Collision Investigating Unit on 01622 798538.
