YOBS have damaged a man’s car twice in just 24 hours, costing more than £200 to repair.

Tommy Moran, 76, of Cedar Road, Canvey, was forced to replace his wing mirror twice in two days after it was snapped off.

The fed-up pensioner has called for action, branding the yobs a disgrace to Canvey as reports continue of antisocial behaviour across the island.

CCTV showed four boys, aged about 15-years-old, riding bikes up and down the road and damaging wing mirrors on at least four other cars.

Just two weeks ago, The Echo reported how at least ten vehicles had wing mirrors broken in Gainsborough, Canvey, in what appears to be a spate of vandalism across the island.

Mr Moran believes the youths committed both acts of vandalism at roughly 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday night last week.

He said: “There were four lads who were going up and down the road smashing off wing mirrors, they did about four or five and completely snapped them.

“It was Wednesday night, one of my neighbours has CCTV and you can see them doing it.

“On Thursday I swallowed my pride a little and paid out £160 to get it fixed.

“Low and behold it seems as if the same four came back and snapped it off again.

“I couldn’t believe it. Just why? It is not just me, they have done loads, but why? It is so frustrating.

“They are old enough to know what they are doing, Canvey is getting ridiculous.

“I saw the story about stones being thrown at Father Christmas, and I can’t believe these things are happening on the island.

“It is a crime, and it has cost me £250. They are old enough to know better and something must be done.” The latest incident comes after Canvey’s annual lantern parade was marred on Saturday when former councillor, Colin Letchford, dressed as Father Christmas, was pelted with stones by a group of youths.
