Two specials have arrested a man on suspicion of having a knife in a public place in Southend.
Special Constable Victoria Negus and S/Sgt Tom Littlemore were on duty in Southend when they were informed of an incident at a local fast food restaurant.
Officers from Southend Community Policing Team were informed of a suspect with a knife leaving the fast food restaurant and going towards the Victoria Shopping Centre.
Tom and Victoria persuaded the suspect, detained him and secured the knife.
A 17-year-old boy was charged with having a knife in a public place.
Acting Inspector Ian Hughes from Southend Community Policing Team said: “Having Specials volunteer their time to support us is invaluable.
"Without their help, we may not have been able to detain the male.
“Their contribution to the community is greatly appreciated.”
