Paving and groundworks are well underway at the new Basildon market site in St Martin’s Square.
Once complete this spring all 46 kiosks will be in place with electricity and water, as well as pop-up stalls.
Work on the market service building, located behind the Towngate Theatre, is also almost complete and ground works for the new access route alongside Westgate are progressing.
The relocation of the market will pave the way for a major redevelopment of Basildon town centre.
It will be followed by works to St Martin’s Gardens and improvements to the area of the bell tower and church car park. These works will complete the green link from the town centre to Gloucester Park via the new pedestrian crossing and boulevard.
