GREAT Wakering Rovers visit Southend Manor bidding to hit the 80 point mark in the Essex Senior League.

The league leaders defeated Woodford Town 1-0 on Wednesday to stay ahead of Redbridge courtesy of their vastly superior goal difference.

And they will be determined to continue that form against Southend Manor, who have largely underachieved this season.

The 14th-placed side, who began the season with top five ambitions, are without a win in three matches and have not played a game in almost three weeks.

“It is important we keep chalking up points but Southend Manor is always a tough game,” said Rovers chief Iain O’Connell. “It is a derby and there are a few ex Wakering players involved.

“The mentality of the group is excellent and I expect the same once again.”

Rovers have also signed former Tilbury and Bowers & Pitsea defender Aaron Waters.

Basildon United make the trip to Wadham Lodge determined not to lose touch with the division’s top three.

The Bees are 10 points off the top two but have three games in hand on the pair and secured an impressive win on Tuesday to progress to the semi-finals of the Errington Challenge Cup.

Wadham Lodge are fourth from bottom and remain on the look for the points that will assure them of their league safety.

Hullbridge Sports welcome Sporting Bengal United to Lower Road as their survival charge continues.

Third-from-bottom Sports have been walloped 5-0 and 6-0 in their last two matches.

And Darren Manning will want to stop the rot tomorrow.

“Despite our league position the mood in the camp is excellent,” he said.

“We have trained well and bonded as a group and we ready for the challenge of the last 10 matches now.

“Tomorrow is just another game for us. We need to take control of our situation and do the business.”
