Southend's Royals Shopping Centre celebrated its 30th birthday in style with a VIP champagne breakfast followed by a fashion show.

The shopping centre has been celebrated the momentous occasion throughout the month, as it marks 30 years since its grand opening on March 23, 1988.

The Mayor of Southend, Fay Evans, and Rochford and Southend East MP, James Duddridge, plus a whole host of special guests descended on the Royals to join centre manager, Dawn Jeakings, and, of course, mascot, Ryan the Lion, for a celebration champagne breakfast.

The following day, in true Royals style, the centre set up a catwalk.

A fabulous fashion show commenced, showcasing the latest looks from Animal, Primark, Debenhams, TK Maxx and Pandora, with the big names showing the centre’s prestige.

The Royals has been celebrating throughout this month with a host of free activities to experience and enjoy every weekend.

Many readers of you may remember the grand opening 30 years ago, as a large crowd of people gathered outside the brand-new shopping centre.

Echo:

There was an air of excitement among friends and strangers, waiting for one of Britain’s biggest TV stars at the time, Neighbour’s heartthrob, Jason Donovan to officially open the site.

A lot has changed in 30 years, but here’s to hoping the Royals stays a mainstay on Southend’s High Street.
