The bomb squad was called to a beach in the early hours of bank holiday after a suspicious object was found.
Southend’s Coastguard teamed up with the Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit to inspect the item which was found on Chalkwell Beach, Southend, yesterday.
A spokesman for the Coastguard said: “A busy weekend so far with taskings to three items of “suspected ordnance” below the high water mark.
"Assisted by Canvey Coastguards, we followed the protocol for such incidents and yesterday’s items were removed by the EOD team. After an early start, the EOD attended again, and carried out a detonation of the third item.”
