ROADS are being closed for a half marathon event.

The streets will be blocked off in preparation for the Southend Half Marathon which is held on Sunday June 10.

It is in aid of Havens Hospices there will be a number of road closures for a short period of time.

There will be no parking charges for runners’ onsite at Shoebury East Beach

Jane Hopkins, events fundraiser at Havens Hospices, said: “We are really looking forward to cheering on all the runners at the 23rd Southend Half Marathon.

“On behalf of everyone at Havens Hospices I would like to thank everyone who supports this event.

A large number of streets will be closed for different times.

These include George Street, and Rampart Terrace from 7.30am until 2pm, High Street Shoebury from 9.15am until 10am.

The Southend Half Marathon starts and ends at Shoebury East Beach.

Runners and wheelchair athletes still interested in taking part can still sign up online or by calling 01702 220324.

There will be registration on the day with an additional £5 charge.
