ALASTAIR Cook smashed his maiden One-Day International century as England beat India by 104 runs in the opening NatWest Series match at The Rose Bowl.
Essex opener Cook scored 102 of his side's 288-2, with Ian Bell adding 126 not out and Kevin Pietersen a quickfire unbeaten 35.
James Anderson then took centre stage, taking 4-23 as India subsided to 184 all out.
Cook was also in the action in the field, removing Yuvraj Singh with a fine diving catch.
Essex team-mate Ravinder Bopara got in on the act by catching idol Sachin Tendulkar off the bowling of Anderson for 17.
