A MALAYAN war veteran has been honoured for his role in helping the south-east Asian country more than 50 years ago.
Major Frank Clark, 83, of Ashingdon Heights, Ashingdon, served in the intelligence core and spent five years in the jungle fighting Chinese communist guerillas in the 1950s.
He has been awarded the Pingat Jasa Malaysia medal for his bravery, but said he will always remember the country for its amazing nature, not the spoils of war.
"It was dangerous fighting in a country so far away, but it was also very beautiful, which is what I miss the most," he said.
"We were liberating the Malays. I am pleased to receive the medal."
