RESIDENTS are fearful the latest pile of fly tipping could be the beginning of a spate at the seafront.

The large pile of wire was reported in Marine Parade, Canvey, after a resident alerted Canvey East councillor, Chas Mumford to the issue.

Mr Mumford said: “It has been now been reported to the officers at the council and we are waiting for somebody to come and clear it.”

Mr Mumford is concerned that the dump could be a sign of a continued “spate” of fly-tips to hit the seafront on Canvey.

Mr Mumford said: “We have had other incidents like this in the past couple days.

“Someone else dropped a patio door on that same road.

“We have had a spate of dumping items on Marine Parade.”

The pile contains the protective sheaths for copper wiring, where all of the copper has been removed.

There is also an a small amount of thinner metal wires and plastic.

The flytip is currently blocking the entire footpath in Marine Parade.

Jane Hartson, 43, who lives off Thorney Bay Road, was angered by the tip which she feels is blighting Canvey seafront.

She said: “It is very frustrating when our paths are blocked by selfish tipping.

“They have taken all the copper out of the tubes and left it in the middle of the street.

“It’s so unfair because it is not the people who dump it who foot the bill.

“It is us who have to pay for it, and the poor person who thought they were getting their waste removed by a legitimate company.”

The fly tipping had not been cleared up by Castle Point Council, which owns the land, at the time of going to print.

The Echo contacted the council for further information, however it was not able to supply a comment about the problems before the paper went to press.
