A BILLERICAY singing duo still think they've got the X Factor - even though Simon Cowell told them they were no good.

Millions of viewers tuning into the X Factor tomorrow night will see Ben Cook and Robert Morgan auditioning in front of the show's judges.

The 16 year old Mayflower School pupils who perform under the name Bert and His Bird, sang one of their own tunes, entitled Number One Burger Flipper of the Year in front of the stunned record mogul and fellow judges Sharon Osbourne, Danni Minogue and Louis Walsh.

Their quirky performance left Cowell and the other judges speechless - but for all the wrong reasons, so they didn't make it through to the next round.

But Ben said: "We don't mind if they don't like us. Our music probably takes a bit of getting used to.

"I wrote the song because it's my dream to flip burgers in a Wendy's burger joint in America one day.

"Simon Cowell looked utterly shocked after we finished. He said 'You are the worst band I've ever seen'.

"Obviously that made our jaws drop a bit too, but I don't mind looking a bit stupid on the telly."

Ben, of Princes Close, Billericay, writes the lyrics and sings lead on their songs, while Robert, who lives in Broome Road, composes the music and usually plays guitar.

Ben said: "We had to change things a bit, because they don't allow instruments in the auditions. We tried working out a dance routine, but got a bit nervous and mucked it up. I ended up singing to them on my knees.

"I think they liked our name at least. I'm not gay, but in touch with my feminine side, so I'm the bird."

You can see the pair tomorrow (Saturday) on ITV1, at 7.40pm and again on Xtra Factor, on ITV2 an hour later.
