A man was stabbed and rushed to hospital after a morning attack.

Police rushed to Barringtons flats, Sutton Road, Southend at about 6.30am today.

A man was later arrested on suspicion of ABH.

Residents living nearby saw blood and the heavy police presence.

An anonymous resident said: “There is blood all over the floor. There was an officer waiting for forensics. Someone was taken away.

“This is ridiculous. There is security from 5pm to 2pm but they cover the whole area not just Barringtons. It can take them half-an-hour when you call.

“This is a horrible place to live now. Something needs to be done and South Essex Homes are not listening."

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called to a flat on Sutton Road, Southend, after reports that a man was stabbed.

"The victim, a man aged in his 30s, suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing and was taken to hospital.

"A 52-year old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of ABH and obstructing a police officer.

"He currently remains in custody."

There have been ongoing issues in the area.

On August 3 the Echo reported how residents at the tower block were too scared to open their doors.

Barringtons, has become the site of regular drug deals, violent attacks, and spates of theft according to residents.

Those living in the troubled block are now calling on building managers’ South Essex Homes, to step up security measures for their own safety with video identification on entry and a heavy duty steel door.

South Essex Homes were approached for comment.
