Cycling legend Mark Cavendish was among thousands of people cheering on riders taking part in stage 4 of The Woman's Tour in Southend today. 

The three-hour race was won by Lorena Wiebes in a tight finish which was watched by a large crowd at the finish-line. 

The world-renowned race drew in people of all ages, and among them was former world champion cyclist, Mark Cavendish. 

He was spotted standing on the roadside during the race and cheering on the riders. 

Southchurch councillor Dan Nelson, who helped organise today's event, said on Twitter: "I heard rumours of a GOAT spotted on the side of the road.

"Thanks Mark Cavendish for your support of this great stage and for this great race."

Cavendish is a former Olympic silver medalist and has won numerous events at world championships. 

He has also won 34 stages of the world famous Tour de France.
