A NEW cafe has thrown open its doors, promising to treat your beloved pooch as a VIP customer.

The Dog Cafe has opened in Barnstaple Road, Thorpe Bay, with the couple behind the pet-friendly business also running The Dog Spa next door.

Jeoff Bull, 54, owns the new cafe alongside his partner, Hannah Smith, with the cafe offering sweet treats and coffee specifically for dogs, as well as plenty for their owners.

He said: “We offer speciality coffee from All Press which is an artisan coffee roasting firm from Hockney but it originated from New Zealand.Echo:

“It uses an air roasting technique and it’s great coffee. We also work with businesses in the borough such as Wilma’s Bakery and Flower and Spoon Bakery too.

“We wanted a very dog friendly cafe - as there aren’t many in the area and very few in Thorpe Bay. We offer lots for dogs including coffees, cakes and even blankets if they are cold or muddy and wet.”

Hannah has run The Dog Spa in a neighbouring unit for just over two years, with the pair seeing the dog cafe as a natural progression for the thriving business.

The couple both previously worked in London before branching out into dog services in the borough, and are proving popular with customers already.

Mr Bull added: “It’s been fantastic so far and we are getting a real good mix of people including some without dogs coming into the cafe.

“I was worried it could put off those without pets but it doesn’t at all and we’ve had so many great Facebook reviews and comments.

“I hope we will become a good meeting place for our borough’s dog lovers and we are already seeing so many different breeds coming in already.”

He said they are planning special events where anyone with a specific dog breed will be invited to the cafe.

The couple are also hoping to make the most of passing trade, opening early in the morning to target commuters.

The cafe opens 7am to 4pm Tuesday to Friday, 8am to 4pm on Saturday and 10am to 2pm Sunday, and is closed on Mondays.
