A £20,000 cash reward is being offered for information about a murder which has been described as "swift" and "brutal" by police bosses.

Crimestoppers has increased its reward to £20,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for killing Terry Leeks.

Mr Leeks, 46, died after being stabbed in Northlands Park in the early hours of July 11 last year.

Essex Police has launched a renewed appeal as it approaches the one year anniversary of his death.

Speaking today at the park detective chief inspector Louise Metcalfe said: "We know Terry cycled along the track in the park and he went to the corner of the park which is where we believe he intended to meet someone.

"We know from the fisherman's account that he was chased away from that point to where four to six males attacked him. The males ran off around the park. The attack was swift, it was brutal and they left Terry for dead here."

He was stabbed at around 1.30am, and later died in hospital.

Speaking to the Echo detective chief inspector Louise Metcalfe said: "Any information is great information there is nothing too small we have worked tirelessly for a year but we haven't got to a charge yet and we need the community's help."

In total, 13 people have been arrested in connection with Terry’s death.

Four of them – two boys aged 15 and 17 and two men aged 19 – released under investigation.

Nine others have been told they face no further action.
