A bus service is not serving a south Essex village today as a car park is closed due to high tides.

Coalhouse Fort car park in East Tilbury was closed at 11.30am this morning, and will stay shut until 3pm today (March 10).

This is due to high tides and the closure of the Thames Barrier, Thurrock Council has said.

Due to this, during this time, the NIBS bus service 374 will not serve the fort or East Tilbury village.

The service will resume when the car park re-opens after 3pm.

A council spokesman said: "Due to high tides and the closure of the Thames Barrier today (10 March), Coalhouse Fort car park will be closed from 11.30am to 3pm.

"During this time, the NIBS bus service 374 will not serve the fort or East Tilbury village. When the car park is open, the service will resume."

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the area because some minor flooding to coastal roads and footpaths is likely between 1pm and 3pm today.

Areas most at risk are Coalhouse Fort and car park, and the low lying land between the fort and Coalhouse Point.

Residents are advised to stay away from risk areas until the warning is lifted.
