A home in Pitsea has been gutted after a devastating blaze last night.

Firefighters in Basildon were alerted to a house fire in Manor Avenue at 7.48pm last night (June 15).

When fire crews arrived, they reported the house was fully alight, but thankfully no one was home at the time of the blaze.

Fire crews from Corringham, Rayleigh Weir, Grays, Leigh and Orsett were also called to the blaze and quickly got it surrounded.

Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the house next door.

The fire investigation officer found the fire started in the lounge "due to electrics".

This is the fifth serious house fire that Essex firefighters have been called to this week.

Group Manager Justin Benson-Ryal said: "Firefighters worked extremely hard to stop this fire spreading to the neighbouring properties, which due to the intensity of the fire was a hard job for the crews.

"I also want to urge everyone to check they have working smoke alarms, and if you don't have any or they are not working, then call us.

"We will provide and fit smoke alarms completely free of charge. Call 0300 303 0088 or book online: www.essex-fire.gov.uk/book."
