A VICTIM was left with serious injuries following an attack in a Basildon pub, prompting the police to launch an investigation and appeal to the public for witnesses.

The incident, which took place in the Jolly Friar pub in Whitmore Way, started on Saturday evening with police called in by paramedics at about 6.40pm.

After arriving at the scene, police found the victim and assisted with treatment before leaving them in the care of the East of England Ambulance Service.

With Essex Police’s investigation now underway, the force has now appealed for anyone who has any information about the incident to come forward.

Det Sgt Sandy Kelleher said: “The victim of this incident was left with serious injuries.

“I am sure this was traumatic for them and anyone in the pub that witnessed the attack.

“I’d like to thank all those who have already come forward to help us, and we believe there may be more people with information that will help us establish the facts of this case.

Witnesses are urged to contact the police on 101 and quote incident number 986 of Saturday, January 27.
