A WOMAN has been seriously injured and three others have been hurt after a car crashed into a tree in Billericay.

Essex Police were called to the junction of Pipps Hill Road North, and Oak Road, in Billericay, at around 12:40am this morning.

On arrival officers found a car had been involved in a crash with a tree.

Four people were found injured at the scene, including a woman with serious injuries.

All four were taken to hospital, with three taken to the Royal London Hospital, and one to Basildon Hospital. 

The road was closed for almost eight hours whilst an investigation into the crash was carried out.

It was later re-opened just before 8am.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called just before 12.45am this morning to attend a road traffic collision on Pipps Hill Road North in Crays Hill near Basildon involving a single vehicle.

“Four ambulances, four Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles, an ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance response car were sent to the scene.

"Three patients were transported to the Royal London Hospital, and one patient was transported to Basildon University Hospital.”

Essex Police are now urging witnesses to come forward to help with their investigation.

A spokesman said: “Officers are appealing for any information or dashcam footage after a collision left a woman with serious injuries in Billericay.

“At the scene we found a car had been involved with a collision with a tree and four people, including a woman who had sustained serious injuries. She was treated by paramedics at the scene and all four people were taken to hospital.

“We worked at the scene with emergency service colleagues through the night and we reopened the roads at about 7.55am.
