MEMBERS of a cycling club raised hundreds of pounds by pedalling 100 miles.
Essex Roads Cycling Club has supported the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal since 2003 by cycling the same distance every Remembrance Sunday.
Organiser Karthic Kukathasan said: “There were various groups, one faced numerous punctures and other setbacks. But they stuck together and showed true team spirit and despite the early start they got back to Billericay after 12 saddle sore hours.
“But another group, either quicker or just luckier, were back in Billericay by 3pm, covering 100 miles in 7 hours.”
The cyclists pedalled through Stock, the Hanningfields, past Danbury then across to Maldon, Witham, Notley and Shalford.
A short break followed at Bosworth’s Tea Rooms at the Green, Finchingfield before they set off for Saffron Walden, Thaxted, Molehill Green near Stansted Airport, then back towards Ongar, Brentwood and finally Billericay.
