Jailed: Illegal immigrant who got a job with fake passport

AN illegal immigrant who used a false passport to work illegally in the UK has been jailed for a year.

Abram Olalere, 38, originally from Nigeria, used the fake document to get into the UK and to get a job.

He was arrested by immigration officers from the UK Border Agency in Grays on December 22 last year.

They recovered the fake passport, which falsely stated Olalere had indefinite leave to remain in the UK and could live and work in the country without restrictions.

Olalere, of Cromwell Road, Grays, had been working in West Thurrock since January 2008 and the court heard his employer had been fooled by the fake passport.

At Basildon Crown Court, he claimed he was sending money back to Nigeria to support his four children. He said he was sorry for what he had done and now wanted to return to Nigeria as soon as possible.

Olalere pleaded guilty to possessing a false passport with intent and fraud.

Following the sentencing, Gail Adams, the UK Border Agency’s regional director, said: “We will not tolerate immigration abuse and will punish those who break the immigration laws.

“This case shows how effective identity cards will be in preventing immigration abuse. Individuals will be locked down to one identity through their facial image and fingerprints.

“Identity cards for foreign nationals will help us crack down on illegal working, as they will give employers a safe and secure way of checking a migrant’s right to work and study in the UK.”

More spin and lies from the UK Border Agency.A year ago a Dutchman succesfully cloned a "new" UK identity card - the criminal element no doubt already have the technology to do this.

They are no safer than a passport in reality.

Anything can be cloned, passports, ID cards, credit cards etc. That doesnt mean they are no good, it just means that's all we have presently. Stop whining about the negatives and relish the fact that 95% of the time they work very well. That means the majority of us ie: society, are much better off with these security measures.

Why is he being jailed in this country at further expense to the taxpayers?
He should just be sent back to where he came from.

“This case shows how effective identity cards will be in preventing immigration abuse. Individuals will be locked down to one identity through their facial image and fingerprints."

Not true. Mr Olalere has been caught despite the fact that there are no ID cards. What this case shows is that, with proper enforcement, we don't need ID cards. Without proper enforcement, even if we have ID cards, the money will have been wasted.

Not true. The biometrics being proposed for the ID cards scheme don't work -- http://dematerialise

Not true. The biometrics being proposed are too flaky. About 20 percent of people will have trouble using their biometrics to verify their identity. So about 20 percent of people will have trouble proving their right to work in the UK legally. Not criminals and terrorists. Ordinary, decent, regular people -- http://dematerialise

ID cards will be a very useful additional security method. Most criminals are simply too dumb to clone a biscuit, let alone an ID card. Yes we will always have sophistacted criminals able to bypass anything, and yes they will always be one step ahead. Lets just be thankful that the technology we do have catches the vast majority of criminals.

The biometrics that the Home Office rely on will make life harder for everyone, not just criminals and terrorists but you, too. Will you still be thankful then?

He should now be DNA tested and deported immediately. Then if he is caught trying to come back into the country there will be no doubt that he is trying to get in illegally. They should do that to all illegal immigrants that are deported.

The expression "one in a million" comes to mind.....

The immigrant problem in the UK has become an industry now. The clever ones making all the cash from the hordes of poor mugs coming over here for a better life.

Measures such as identity cards might help slightly at first but you only have to look at the scale of the identity theft which the banks are unable to contain to see it will not make a dent.

Why do you think the police are so paranoid about the leaking of information on immigration issues?

Unfortunately making life tougher for the criminals will also affect us. That's the price we pay for democracy I'm afraid.

You pays your money, you takes your chances.

One things for sure, under Lab/Con things can only get worse.

The terrorists have won.

They have changed our lives beyond recognition. We used to live in a free country. Now we are controlled, watched, spied on, our email and phone calls are monitored, we are to be forced to have ID cards.
The way the British people have swallowed this crap, all in the name of 'terrorism' is astounding. I knew many people were dumbed down and brainwashed, but I never realised just how many.
Now I know how the Jews felt in 1930s Germany.

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialist
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

Why is he 'desparate' to work and live here (you mean 'desperate', don't you?)

This is not his country. Nigeria is.

If I went to live and work in Nigeria, would I be forgiven for 'wanting a better life'?

too many illegal immigrants in the uk for the governments to deport. and besides deporting means spendature on plane tickets etc that come from the taxpayer, why don't the government let them live and work but at a price, say 40% of what they earn here must be payed as immigration taxes, they must atleast do 5 hours of comunity service per week. that way we get the best benefits from immigratin.

Perhaps somebody should take it into consideration that he came here to work - rather than claim benefits...
