ROB Brydon Live! sees the star of Gavin and Stacey and Marion and Geoff bring his stand up show to Westcliff.

The comics’s pet topics are central to this one-man show and include views close to his heart, such as becoming a dad at 42, the horrors of home-birthing, his obsession with owning new and unnecessary gadgets and his pondering on being Welsh and why Wales elicits such rabid, fun-poking by the rest of the country.

Tomorrow night’s show also sees the comedian return to his love of improvisation, which means the audience has no choice but to be involved.

The chat is tempered by Brydon’s love of music, and his trusty guitar sees him grinnin’ and pickin’ his way through his personal favourites.

Brydon, a former radio and television presenter for BBC Wales, first came to prominence in 2000 when he starred in comedy Marion and Geoff, a series he also co-wrote. Playing taxi driver Keith Barret, he would deliver monologues to a fixed camera in his cab, telling of the divorce from his wife Marion who had begun a new relationship with his colleague, Geoff.

The ever-positive Keith became such a popular character he received his own spin-off talk show.

Brydon, a regular in Billericay-based comedy Gavin and Stacey, has also appeared in films including A Cock and Bull Story and is a regular on television and radio panel shows.

On the live circuit he is famous for bizarre or unsettling black comedy, and has worked with a number of comedians and actors with a similar taste, most notably Steve Coogan.

Rob Brydon is at the Cliffs Pavilion, Station Road, Westcliff, on Tuesday March 3, at 7.30pm. Call 01702 351135 for details.
