VANDALS attacked a teen shelter by pulling down the guttering.

They targeted the brick-built shelter at Clements Hall sports ground which had been set up for young people to enjoy.

The yobs pulled down guttering in the third attack on the shelter committed this year.

In March metal and wood sheet ceiling panels were wrenched down and the walls were daubed with graffiti. Earlier a downpipe was smashed off.

The shelter was built by Hawkwell Parish Council and was opened only last summer.

Vic Leach, chairman of the parish council said: "I am disgusted at the stupid actions of a minority who have again damaged our community shelter.

“The parish council will now have to seriously consider whether it is worth it to keep repairing the shelter or just demolish it.

“This would mean depriving the vast majority of users who respect our efforts in providing the facility because of the behaviour by idiots who can only be destructive.”

PC Steve Joynes, the neighbourhood specialist officer for Hawkwell, said : “It is a shame people should suffer as a result of the actions of an irresponsible few. "
