FORGET Marilyn Monroe’s famous happy birthday rendition to JFK, another blond bombshell is set to belt out many happy returns to Basildon!

Opera babe Katherine Jenkins, 28, has confessed she would be happy to sing Happy Birthday to mark 60 years since the formation of Basildon New Town.

The Welsh mezzo soprano’s performance will be top of the bill at the open-air concert in Lake Meadows, Billericay, on July 25.

Speaking in advance of her visit to the town, Katherine, who once cracked a chandelier with her high singing voice, said: “I would love to sing Happy Birthday to everyone in Basildon. That’s a great idea.”

It is not known whether the classical superstar will mirror the flirty style of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe who made headlines when she sang Happy Birthday to US president John F Kennedy in 1962.

Paul Illet, a spokesman for Basildon Council, said: “We are delighted that a global star such as Katherine Jenkins is coming along to perform in our district. It would be great if she does sing Happy Birthday Basildon, The crowds would love it.”

Tickets to see the star, who also admitted she prefers open- air concerts because it means she can chat with the audience in between songs, sold in record numbers within hours of going on sale.
