EDDIE and the Hot Rods will be pulling into Westcliff this month. Fresh-faced from a US tour, the band have been going for more than 30 years and will be playing at the Riga Music Bar on Saturday.

Frontman Barrie Masters, from Southend, said: “It is our homecoming gig. We like to play once or twice a year.

“It’s a great gig. I have only just been told that Sky TV are filming it. I guess it is for a documentary. This year has been busy. We played in France and had three weeks in America.

“It was a lot of driving. We did 7,000 miles starting in Seattle and going down the West Coast, through to Austin, in Texas, and Boston, Chicago and New York.

“It was good to see the kids coming to the gigs. They knew all the words to the songs.”

The group began in the Seventies when four teenagers from Southend got together. Since then the line-up has changed but the group have remained strong and are looking forward to performing in Germany later this year.

At the group’s peak the band was signed to Island Records and had three hit albums and four top 40 UK singles, including top ten hit Do Anything You Wanna Do.

Doors at the Riga open 8.30pm. Tickets are £8 in advance or £10 on the door. Phone 08700 600100.
