Shoebury Conservatives have a poll on their website regarding the proposed development of East Beach.

As of approx. 9.50pm on June 14, 15 per cent of voters were for the proposals and 84 per cent were against.

The poll has backfired.

Again, the residents of this borough are quite clearly telling the council’s cabinet they do not want the development on East Beach.

Southend is not the Tory cabinet’s personal fiefdom. We, as residents, need to reclaim our town from the obnoxious and arrogant controls imposed by these councillors.

This is your town. Vote them out!

...Bernard Chalk (June 12) gave a warped interpretation of the car parking proposals at East Beach.

His description of “penning in drivers” is totally absurd.

The re-arrangement of the existing car park would mean vehicles (not drivers) will be safely parked in an organised fashion, in a proper pay and display area, as a car park should be.

To have them parked along the carriageway, as has been suggested by a group of nimby residents, with cars arriving and leaving constantly among visiting families and children, is a recipe for disaster.

...While I welcome Mike Assenheim’s public admission of flip-flopping over the issue of Shoebury East Beach (June 12) I find it incredible he criticises some over openness and democracy when he has taken four different positions on this same issue.

I agree people who have a mind have the right to change it, but on four separate occasions?
