TWO decades of dance are being condensed into one night at the 21st birthday of Underground and Saks.

Whether you clubbed at the joint venue in the Eighties, Nineties or Noughties, organisers are adamant there’s something for everyone.

The free event, which takes place across both venues in Clifftown Road, Southend, tomorrow night, will see a dozen DJs recreate sounds from the past.

The party also recognises the work of Colin Lane, who has presided over this corner of Southend nightlife since the late Eighties.

“When Colin first took over Saks back in 1988, it was nothing more than a narrow strip of wood and windows,” says Chris Powell, entertainment manager at the clubs.

“Over years of hard work and great nights he built up the venue and it now sits at the pinnacle of Southend’s clubbing heritage, nurturing some of the best nights we’ve ever had in the area.

“From the early days of Hip Hop Pioneers and Born Free in the late Eighties, to the rock-fuelled basement beat feast that was the Blue Meanie and right up to classic house nights, such as Hear No Evil and Groovilicious, Saks has always helped to put Southend on the map.”

DJs on the night will include Taggy, Tony Levene, Colin Levett and Chris Powell.

Doors open at 8pm and the party continues until 4am.
