Can any reader remember as far back at 1945-46 when Southend clothing exchange was run by the WVS, the Women’s Voluntary Service.

My brother and I would be taken there as young children by our mother.

She would take along all our washed and ironed outgrown clothes.

These were thoroughly checked over and our mother was given points.

The more points you had, the more new clothes you were given in exchange.

Most of the clothes came from Canada, and some had messages sewn inside by the person who donated them.

I have asked many local people and, so far, no one can recall this scheme.

I am writing my autobiography and would really like some information about the clothing exchange.

I am hoping this letter will trigger someone’s memory.
