During the past few months I have enjoyed visiting Southend High Street on Saturday afternoons. It has always been busy and a nice place for families to visit.
This was not the case on Saturday afternoon. I was there at 5pm, a little later than usual, and was shocked at the number of drunken men about.
I saw several teenage girls shouting at a drunken man who was dancing and knocking people over.
Another drunk was banging at a litter bin, playing it like a drum. Around the corner a drunken man was kicking a bank ATM machine, while another was holding his drinking glass. There was not a policeman in sight.
I am sure the hot weather and the availability of alcohol is the reason for all this unruly behaviour. I will think twice before visiting the High Street again.
Come on Southend Council, isn’t it about time you banned the sale of alcohol during daylight hours?
