UPBEAT rockers the Xcerts will perform at the Southend Arts Festival tonight.

The Scottish three-piece will be bringing the energy and exuberance of their debut album, In The Cold Wind We Smile, to the Railway Hotel, in Clifftown Road.

Although the band formed in Aberdeen in 2001 their persistence has paid dividends and they’re now receiving attention from all the right areas.

Described by BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq as ludicrously punchy, the Xcerts spent last year touring with Southend’s Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Feeder and My Vitriol.

They recently returned from the British Anthems in Tokyo, a music industry showcase where they were chosen to represent their country by the British Embassy.

Following their return, the band became the first act to play a show on Loch Ness, when they took to the water in a boat for their album launch.

Coach loads of fans were transported to the floating venue, with one of the vehicles having to be rescued after sinking into the sand.

The Xcerts are now mid-way through their own 25 date UK tour, trashing out melodic tunes reminiscent of a young Idlewild.

Their new single, Just Go Home, is out now on Xtra Mile Recordings. Tickets to the Railway Hotel show are £4, and doors open at 8pm.
