The Government’s decision to raise the tax on bingo in the last budget is a real threat to the industry and many clubs are already struggling.

Conservatives have argued against taxing bingo even more than other forms of gambling. Bingo Halls, like the Rio Club on Canvey, play an important social role in communities, especially for older people.

We should help the industry survive, not punish it out of existence.

Perhaps Labour thought it could get away with this stealth tax because bingo players are not the sort to make a fuss.

Well, it was wrong. Bingo players are mounting a high-level campaign to make MPs listen and are planning a protest in Westminster in July.
