A DOCTOR has been arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

Simon Yau, 29, from Benfleet, who worked as a GP across a number of practices in South East Essex, was arrested in July by Essex Police.

NHS South East Essex, which covers clinics and care centres in Southend, Castle Point, and Rochford, has since suspended the GP.

Donna Veasey, a spokeswoman for Essex Police, said: “On Friday, July 17, a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children and is on police bail until October 21, pending further inquiries.”

Mr Yau has been suspended from the medical performers’ list pending the results of the police investigation, barring him from practising as a GP.

Claire Routh, spokeswoman for NHS South East Essex NHS, said: “South East Essex can confirm a locum GP has been suspended from its medical performers’ list.

“If any members of the public have any concerns, issues or questions, contact our confidential Patient Advice and Liaison Service, at NHS South East Essex, who will be able to help you 01702 224678.

“NHS South East Essex would like to reassure patients that the suspension will not affect services to patients, or patient care.”
