BUDDING bodypoppers made all the right moves to win the UK Street Dance Championships for the second year running.

The Canvey-based team, called K2, triumphed in the category for eight to 13 year-olds.

The championships took place at the IndigO2 theatre, within London’s O2 Arena.

Jacqui Shave, 43, of the Avenue, Canvey, is the mum of one of the team members, Lolly, aged 12. She said: “In the dance world this is the equivalent of the dance World Cup, so we’re very proud.

“They’ve been signed for London-based talent agency GForce for a year, through winning the UK Championship, which is very exciting.

“Since Diversity won Britain’s Got Talent it seems street dance is the hot thing and everyone wants to see the kids in action. Our kids train four nights a week, which is great as it gives them a hobby and keeps them off the streets. It’s a really positive thing.”

The other team members are all from Canvey and south Essex, and include: Robyn Burry, 12, Jordan Barr, 11, Kayleigh McHugh, 13, Joe Davis, 11, Cherise Claxton, 14, Kayla Young, 14, Nyree Hall, 12, Madison Burman, 11, and Leanne Elston, 13.

Ellie-Joe Brooks, 13, and Danielle Turner, 14, are normally part of the team, but could not compete as they were on holiday.

K2 are the prodigies of talented choreographer David Welch. His older street dance team Karizma Krew were runners up at the UK Championships, in the category for 16 year-olds and over.
