Child picked up iPod playing porn in shop

A MUM is furious after her ten-year-old girl was exposed to pornographic images after picking up an iPod in a shop at Lakeside.

Helen Goodman, 37, said her daughter, Eleanor, was left shocked after innocently looking at an iPod Touch on display at the Apple store.

Mrs Goodman said: “She picked up one of the demo models and it was playing pornographic material.

“I called to complain, and was told matter of factly by staff this happens a lot as people come in and download it for a laugh.

“I don’t find it funny and all my friends think it’s disgusting, but Apple say there is nothing they can do to stop it.”

Mrs Goodman, of Edmund Drive, Chafford Hundred, has warned other parents.

She said: “If they can’t guarantee 100 per cent internet safety for the kids visiting the store, I feel they should not be allowed to offer internet access to the public without supervision.”

The Echo asked for a statement on the general policy of Apple demo products playing pornographic material, and was told by a spokesman: “We wouldn’t comment on the policy that we have in place.”

Perhaps the woman should teach her child not to pick things up.

They probably see worse at home anyway.

I've been in that store, and there is a large display where you are encouraged to pick things up and try them out.

As you can in Ann Summers (or so I'm told lol)

I can understand where this woman's coming from and where the shop's coming from too. I think the staff should check the devices more often for inappropriate material and perhaps parents should have a check to but due to some people's idea of fun it's something that'll happen from time to time.

Or set the shop devices to 'safe search' to filter out the ****.

I can't imagine how it is exceptable for apple to try and wash their hands of this? After all, if you went in to dixons and Emmanuelle was playing on the widescreens, then they must be in breach of showing adult rated material to a minor? If they cant stop that material making it on to their demo models, then their is something they can do despite what they are saying - Stop having demo models altogether. Tough shizz. I think its wrong. security word: "also-hurt"

some comments on here are clearly from real numptys or non parents... it is the womans right and her choice as to when she exposes her daughter to the delicate subject... people are so cynical and whingey always having digs at people for their actions. clearly this woman has done the appropriate thing. and the company should apologise at the least for not checking the contents of their ipods if they are aware of this being a continuous issue.

I am the mother in this article my daughter is only 10 & was subjected to viewing anal sex on a demo model ipod touch in a public store. A store that encourages the public to test out its products so APR of Thundersley my daughter had every right to 'pick things up' & to Angelvsdevils of Rochford she 'surprisingly' enough hasn't seen anything like this before & I would have hoped as her parent that she wouldn't have had to at such a young age. To clarify I am not after anything from Apple & have told them this as I have taken the complaint to their Head Office. I am just a concerned parent who is worried that this could & more than likely will happen to another child or adult so I want to know they are changing or updating their internet safety filters in all stores.

You shouldn't have to justify your actions. In your position, i would have been extremely angry, and would have done the same as you!

I still don't see what was to be gained by involving the Evening Echo, and making an issue of what happened ?
