Mike Harvey (Nov 12) says no one noticed the additional flights into Southend Airport during recent diversions because of fog. I did.

These were short-term disruptions and the planned expansion will mean a similar level of activity on a regular basis.

Many people suffer in silence and one of the saddest comments I have heard was from a woman who said she “doesn’t bother because the council will do what it wants anyway”.

She may be right, but everyone should make the effort to vote at the local elections and put their views, for or against, into the newspapers, because it looks as if the council is reluctant to publish full details of its so-called consultation.

I have also read the comment that those against the expansion should never have moved into the flight area. That argument is one of the most foolish, as it would have meant large expansions of wasteland across Leigh, Eastwood and Rochford. Most of us moved into the area more than 30 years ago when airport activity was acceptable. We all have the right to co-exist with an aiport operating at acceptable levels.

The proposed expansion is not people-friendly, especially to children under or near the flightpath.
