A FUNDRAISING night is being held in memory of a fun-loving 22-year-old who died of cancer.

Keen clubber Rav Chatha, of Prince William Avenue, Canvey, died from a brain tumour after battling the disease for several months.

The event in his memory takes place at 9pm tonight, at Storm nightclub, in Elmer Approach, Southend, with all money going to Cancer Research UK.

Rav, a former pupil at Thorpe Hall School in Thorpe Bay, and a student of the University of East London, died at St Bart’s Hospital in London, on September 18.

A regular clubber at Mayhem and other clubs in Southend, Rav was first diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year, which spread to his lungs and eventually his brain.

Best friend Luke Jacobs, 21, from Great Wakering, said: “He was very kind, and had real get up and go.

“Rav was a big guy, but had a really friendly aura about him and was quite gentle.

“He was a brave guy and didn’t want to give up.

“Though he had cancer, he didn’t want to just sit at home. He wanted to carry on as normal.

“He said if he got better, he wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK, but he didn’t get the chance.”

More than 300 people attended his funeral on September 28, on Canvey and at Pitsea Crematorium.

Two Facebook groups have been set up in his memory, with hundreds of members. Another friend, Jenny Baker, 20, from Rayleigh, said: “Rav was a genuinely-positive person who got on with everybody, and was always up for a laugh.

“He was an absolutely amazing guy, and an inspiration to everyone.

“He was known for his dancing at Mayhem, where he got everyone on the dancefloor.”

Luke said he hopes to raise about £4,000 from the event tonight.

Tickets cost £5 and are available by calling Luke on 07946 357324.
