If prospective Tory MP Rebecca Harris wants my vote, she had better rethink her ideas on the DNA database (Jan 5).

The only people who have anything to fear from having their DNA on the police database are those planning to commit criminal offences.

If the police want to add my DNA, then I would be happy to oblige. The database not only helps solve thousands of crimes, including many murders, it also allows the police to rule out innocent suspects.

Ideally, the entire population should be on the database, but that’s not going to happen overnight, so let’s, at least, keep the DNA that we have.

Removing it costs money, wastes police time and can only lead to more unsolved crime.
