Almost all the letters I have read in respect of wars appear to consider the valour and integrity of the combatants is decided upon whether the conflict is justified, or simply an attempt to impose alien philosophies on others.

I suggest nothing could be further from the truth.

Soldiers enter into battle as a requirement of their superiors. Paramilitary do likewise by reason of political or religious persuasion.

They honour their commitments with supreme bravery and dedication to their accepted duty, whether they be British, Iraqi or Taleban, yet some critical onlookers tarnish them with the lies and deceit of political leaders pursuing their own agendas.

Salute the brave and reserve condemnation for the instigators of war.
