JAZZMAN Kenny Baxter celebrates his birthday the only way he knows how – with a gig.

The musician, who has been active on the Southend scene since the Fifties, will be celebrating his 76th Birthday with a performance at the Royal Naval Association Club tonight.

Joining Kenny and his quartet will be special guest Mick Foster on baritone saxophone.

Mick has worked extensively as a composer, and regularly plays with ensembles including the Stan Sulzmann Big Band, the Michael Garrick Big Band and the London Jazz Orchestra.

Mick currently teaches saxophone and jazz musicianship, and leads ensembles at Trinity College of Music. The quartet comprises of Kenny on sax, Tim Huskinson on piano, Roger Curfey on bass, Simon Harwood on drums and vocals from Toni Baxter. The event, in Royal Terrace, Southend, starts at 8pm and is £4.
